Red Flags

They'd been appearing since the beginning,
Those red flags I packed away.
I did all I could to ignore them,
Though they insisted that they should stay.

Not too far below the surface,
Just enough so I couldn't forget.
Loitering in my weakest moments,
The red flags id soon come to regret.

I tried thinking of all the good things,
The fun, the companion, the carefree.
But all of those things didn't mean anything,
When you took someone else, and that someone wasn't me.

Should have listened to my instincts,
Asked the questions, called you out.
But instead, you played me for the fool,
Now all I really wanna do is shout.

Tell you how you made me feel,
How you ripped and tore away my heart.
But you don't care now anyway,
Since I'm done, I’m finished, now I've played my part.

So fuck you I say, I'm moving on,
Won't let that happen to me again.
I’ll grow a stronger, deeper, wiser heart,

For someone else better than you, times 10.

Someone's sniffing Something

Someone's sniffing something,
And it's filling the carriage train.
Someone's sniffing something,
Try and hold my breath, I try in vain.

Someone's sniffing something,
It's all encompassing that toxic smell.
Someone's sniffing something,
That smell of chemicals, paint and hell.

Someone's sniffing something,
Their hair's a mess, but they're still smiling.
Someone's sniffing something,
They're body's high, their temperatures rising.

Someone's sniffing something,
And someone's else has started coughing.
Someone's sniffing something,
Two backpackers board, the coughers now rocking.

Someone's sniffing something,
Not that many stops to go.
Someone's sniffing something,
Feel like I could fly, or dance or glow!

Someone's sniffing something,
Better get out, before it takes hold.
Someone's sniffing something,
Out to the fresh air, back out to the cold.

When you reach for the sky

Sometimes it is good to look back, and see what you've done,
All the challenges, and the trails
And all the days in the sun.

All the hard times, the struggles,
The problems you've come through.
To the other side, to today,
To the stronger, the hungrier you

Hungry for life, for what might be near,
For what might be coming, where you will be, in the forthcoming year.

So you march confidently forward,
With your head held high,
Knowing you can deal with anything, you can do anything,
When you reach for the sky.

Living 'Social'

Facebook, Instagram, social media, Twitter
Makes you feel worthless, makes you feel bitter

1 0 1 0 ain't no chance of going slow
Hesitate if you can, but don't interrupt the flow

Cos everyone's on it, and noones who they seem
A comfortable fire blanket, for when they want to be mean

And don't you share an opinion
Stick your head out with a thought
Cos they'll rip you all to pieces
You're their fun, new favourite sport

The minutes turn into hours,
Your eyes transfixed on that screen
Looking for anything, maybe a connection,
Noones got any time, noones really that keen

Maybe I should get a life, simplify
Make some room for more time,

One day I'll switch them all off..
Live life like it's 1999.

Sleeping

Just when I should be sleeping
That's when my thoughts, they come a creepin.

Had all day to sort themselves out
But after dark they come, they play, and they shout.

Into the night they show their face , and present their usual, terrible case.

With no solution, no happy ending,
What kind of message are they all sending?

As I try to snore, I try to cut them out, quieten them down, I try to ignore.

But they just shout their foul language, with arrogance louder and louder, and louder, than before.

As time ticks and tocks and ticks, and I turn and toss and turn, is everyone else asleep?, or part of a chorus of the midnight burn?

I count sheep 1,2,3
98,99,...500
For the whole night, for the last week, I haven't rested, I haven't slumbered.

In the morning the sun comes up, my bags are out, a new day to face.

Another day to strive, another day to survive...another day, to keep up the pace.
